It’s human nature to avoid a painful memory and continue without talking or thinking about it. I wish avoidance were as easy as throwing away trash, which is gone forever; however, it does not work like that. Avoidance is a silent killer because it affects your life negatively, and most people don’t realize that the illness is the symptom of the trauma. Even though you decide not to deal with the trauma, it will deal with you. The disability the trauma brings may be physical, such as high blood pressure, migraines, stomach problems, or emotional such as anxiety or depression, spiritual, etc. Avoiding the problem does not make it absent; it can still affect your everyday life. Start confronting the issues. Talk to a counselor or trustworthy friend, pray, and journal. Deal with your pain and hurt before it consumes you.
